Brothers Wreck Special PDF Print E-mail

Twenty divers flew from the UK to Sharm on Sunday April the 25th for a weeks diving from a live-aboard. Derek had been organising the Brothers Wreck Special trip with his diving mates from 'Up North' and had asked Fletch if he wanted to go and if he knew anyone else who would be interested. We got a call and decided to join in, Ruth hadn't done a week long live-aboard before but thought she'd have to try it. While we were anticipating the trip, the boat, Typhoon, burnt while being re-fitted. Or was it before it was re-fitted? We got a message that Hurricane would stand in, looking at the website it looked a better boat. It was described as Red Sea live-aboard of the year 2004-2006.

SS Arthurtown Wreck, Padstow PDF Print E-mail

The SS Arthurtown was a small cargo ship weighing just 527 tons and measuring 49m long. It struck the Quies off of Trevose head in thick fog and tried to make way to Padstow, it didn't make it. The Arthurtown foundered just a few hundred metres from Stepper Point in 18m of water.

It is easily found with a sounder as the cargo of scrap iron still stands three to four metres above the sea bed. The cargo has now rusted itself into one solid lump full of lots of holes where Conger Eels, Crabs and Tompot Blennies have made their home.

Swanpool Beach, Falmouth PDF Print E-mail

Another local dive instructor always uses Swanpool Beach for escorted dives and Open Water courses. I thought it was about time we had a look to see what it was like. Ruth and I headed down there on an overcast Saturday afternoon to have a look at the south side first. When we arrived the other instructor was there with his entourage taking a couple for a Discover Scuba course an a couple of snorkellers. We parked in the car park for the massive cost of £2 and headed to the cafe for the free cup of tea the car park price included.

Marsa Alam 2009 PDF Print E-mail

After our recent trip to Sharm el Sheik we were wondering where to go in the summer, the choices were narrowed down to Malta or back to Egypt. Ruth wanted to go somewhere she didn't have to wear a drysuit, she does feel the cold. Malta probably would be a little too cold for her so it was Egypt, but where? I didn't want to go back to Sharm after just three months away and had heard some good things about Marsa Alam. So we searched the net and found a deal to fly to Marsa and stay at the Marina Lodge at Port Ghalib. Marsa Alam itself is a two hour drive from the airport but a long stretch of coast within easy reach of the airport is advertised as Marsa Alam.
